1917, possibly the block of wood, is worth anything?
I have an old wooden trunk has the words "Foot soldiers" written on both sides had something written on top, but I really can not say more than what he said. Call "History Detectives" on PBS, may be interested. Seriously, check with antique shops, or something. If you are as too good, probably not. It would need an appraiser to find out.
