Trench Post

Determine what type of geothermal heat pump is suitable for your home depends on the local climate and soil conditions and available land. Geothermal heaters work by absorbing heat from the earth and its transfer within buried pipelines shall be water or coolant. The four types of geothermal energy or geothermal heat pumps are horizontal, vertical, a lake, pond and open loop. The first three are closed loop systems, which coolant or water used in the heat transfer process circulates repeatedly through pipes, the latter is open-circuit system in which water used in heat transfer is returned to its origin after the heat is extracted from it.
The horizontal system is best for those with very land available, because the pipes used in heat transfer occupy much of the land surface. However, an alternative method of installation of pipes, Slinky called because the loops around the pipe in the trench, occupies less space.
The vertical system, by contrast, uses a narrow trench of the pipe and placed vertically on loops. This method of installation of heat pump is used where available land area is small or when the soil is too deep for trenches.
If the property has a pond or lake near the pipe can be run from the house to the water source and is wrapped in coils of at least eight feet below the surface to prevent water or coolant in the pipes from freezing.
Finally, if your property has a well or other source of clean water, you can install an open loop geothermal heat pump system in which water is taken from a well that circulates through the system, then download it back to its source.
