What is your opinion on the effectiveness of the Police Service of Northern Ireland?
Do you feel reasonably free of political bias their recruitment practices and attitudes towards both religious / political community? Hmm … I think I'll post this question in the section of the United Kingdom a little later too.
I think it is probably as effective as any other force in the middle or western europe. The RUC is a product of the times and could never be considered as unbias and effects from a certain prestige, that is, those who believed he had to throw morals out the window if the order was to be kept. This does not say they were not very decent members of the RUC, they certainly were, but when there is no accountability to the public again. I think the PSNI is effective because what has and is making strides to modernize and change with the times. The position of Ombudsman of the police have ensured that the mistakes have been committed and justice. And the implementation of the Patten report (it was 50% of all recruits must come from a Catholic background and 50% from a Catholic background does not apply regardless of who) was a necessary discrimination to ensure that the PSNI is converted into a force that represents the whole community. If you left the natural selection adequate representation would have taken a century.
