Prisoners Wwi

Prisoners Wwi
This is for historians of the Civil War:?

In order to Shelby Foote's 3 vol. on the Civil War has left me with a few questions. What paroling prisoners mean? Do you think Robert E. Lee had the sharpest mind-century military? And finally, was it worth all this? The South was engaged in the acquisition of Mexico, Cuba and Central America. We most likely would come to blows anyway, and in the south probably have allied with Germany in the First World War.

"Parole" means "word" (as in "word of honor"). In paroling a prisoner of war (usually an officer), the captors released him after he gave his word not to fight in the war. Lee was a good general, the century also saw Napoleon Wellington, Davout, and others. Debate on this point would require much more space we have here. Was it worth it? Who can say? Speculate on the future of a divided union – USA and CSA – is also an important issue. Why assume that the South are allied with Germany? Their main crop was cotton, and their main market was England.
