Krav Maga believed to have existed since 1930. Imi Lichtenfeld is credited with the creation of this form of self-defense in the 1930s. After his immigration to Israel in decade 1940, began teaching this form of defense and, finally, were created more refined techniques that became popular as Krav Maga.

As with any system of self defense, a good instructor is very important in KM too. Since the techniques and tactics involved are complex, a qualified instructor with experience is essential for effective training.
