German Cavalry

What was the last use of cavalry in the war?
Poland was against the German infantry in 1939, or in other countries made use of the cavalry on a battlefield, not as transport, role in the war after 1939?
The last cavalry charge in history took place on 23 August 1942, Izbushensky on the River Don. The Italian Savoia Cavalry Regiment, and consisting of 600 mounted Italian troops, under a 2000 Soviet troops. The Italian Lancers destroyed a pair of Soviet armored personnel vehicles before being forced to retire with thirty-two victims. Reports of the cavalry charge Polish against German tanks in 1939, are pure fiction, as witnessed by the survivors of the Polish lancers, and historical Polish official reports. These stories were reported by the Italian press and used as propaganda by the Germans to prove the "backwardness" of the Polish Army and people.

Vienna I Love $5.85 If Rieu is not the most outstanding purveyor of Viennese waltzes and similar light-hearted fare, he is certainly the most popular and well-known. There are plenty of fun pieces on this album, although, to be just a tad pedantic, more of it is Italian and French than remotely Viennese. But it’s all fun, and it’s all well-played. –Sarah Bryan Miller… |
