Corregidor Island is located 48 kilometers west of Manila, Philippines. Its geographical tadpole shape adds to the magnificence of this place. This form is also a factor more to be a strategic place, especially for trade and business.
Literally, the term island of Corregidor means "Island if the correction." Many stories of the accounts for the name of the island. One reason is known is that during the Spanish period, all ships entering Manila Bay were required to pass and leave the island for having their papers checked and corrected. Others would say that the island was a prison or a correctional place that is why the Spanish called the place El Corregidor.
Corregidor Island was best known during the World War II. This had been a fortress of defense. This place rocked many American and Philippine soldiers. This island became a place and season and the defending army Argentina against the Japanese Empire.
Because of its colorful history of the island is awarded with many historical sites as the Malinta Tunnel which is an arsenal and underground hospital located under the Malinta Hill.
After visiting the old Malinta, also visit the lighthouse built by the Spanish in 1836. This is actually the oldest monument of the island.
If you really want to witness the courage and strength of the Filipino and American soldiers to visit the palette and Middleside. You can see the remains soldiers and officers. Also take a look at his old barracks and artillery batteries, as the Battle Hearn.
For fans of the parks, worry no more, because there are also parks that can be visited. There is General Douglas MacArthur Park, where a statue of General Douglas MacArthur is in Lorcha dock at the bottom. It is the exact spot where his ship caught in Mindanao on 11 March 1942. This is where his immortal words "come back" profession. There is also the Japanese Garden of Peace Park. The park has various Japanese soldier memorial shrines. The 10-foot Buddha stoned in a Shinto shrine. The relics of various weapons, are also shown in this park. This park also serves as the park to pray for Japanese war veterans and their families. Apart from all the wonderful historic Corregidor Island is still a island where you can jump and could not do activities on the island. Some of the water, you can go snorkeling and diving. Watch the wonderful sea creatures and coral reefs. Also You can go fishing. Excursions and camps around the mountains and hills. The adventure experience through real rock climbing.
